Antalya is the capital of the Mediterranean province. It is located at the south-western coast of the Mediterranean sea and it is the most wellknown tourism area of Turkey. About 1.6 million people live in Antalya. The City is located in front of the tall mountains of Taurus and on a steep slope down rock plain to the sea.

The history of Antalya comes up to the 2nd century B.C., when Attalus II, king of pergamon, founded this town named "Atteleia" - today it is called Antalya. In the following time Antalya was ruled by the Romans, Byzantinians, Seldshukians and the Osmans.  Throughout in Antalya You can find the relicts of these times. A visit in the Antalya museeum is very advisable.

Antalya today
Only in the last 10 years Antalya became wellknown because of its tourism. Today it is a modern metropolis. Here You can find everything that belong to a big City: high rises and tower blocks, shopping centres, but also the native bazaars, a modern congress centre and aquaparks, where not only the local people relax. Also there are banks, restaurants, bars - and of course the usual traffic jam. Antalya connects antiquity and modern lifestyle in a special way. The large parks, the streets lined by palm trees and the many historical buildings will fill You with enthusiasm.

You can find two large beaches at the border of Antalya. In direction to west there is the pebbled beach of Konyaaltı. Especially on the weekends in the hot summer time thousands of visitors have their picnic here. In direction to east You will find the sandy beach of Lara. Nearby both beaches there are a lot of good hotels in all categories up to international luxury hotels.

Famous tourist villages like Akzu, Belek, Side, Manavgat, Incekum, Avsallar and Alanya in the east and Beldibi, Göynük, Kemer, Kiris, Camyuva and Tekirova in the west belong to the tourism region of Antalya. In the above mentioned villages You will find the most modern hotels of the Mediterranean region. You have the choice between hundreds of hotels in all price classes.

Worth seeing
In Antalya You will find a lot of worth seeing historical things:

In this case it is about the old City of Antalya with its harbour and its old, traditional houses, which represented the Turkish architectural style. Antalya has been awarded with the “Golden apple”, that is the  “Oscar” of the tourism business, because Antalya stand up for protecting these very old buildings.

  • The Antalya museeum. Here You will find the greatest collection of sculptures in the world.  The Antalya museeum is located near the Steigenberger and Sheraton Hotel in Konyaaltı.

  • Walk through the marvelous City garden. This park begins at the minarett and stretches along the coast in front of the Steigenberger and Sheraton Hotel (in direction to Konyaaltı).

  • Visit one of the aquaparks, or the congress centre with its beautiful park and the tourism bazaar.
